
Georgios Pafitanis
Dr Georgios Pafitanis is appointed as a Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon (Trauma, Orthoplastics, Lower extremity and Head & Neck reconstruction) at Barts Health and UCLH NHS Trusts. He obtained his Doctorate in Medicine (MD) with distinction from the University of Ioannina (Greece), his foundation training at the Mersey deanery (University of Liverpool), his core surgical training at the London Postgraduate School of Surgery and his higher specialist training in central London hospitals as a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCSEng). He qualified in Surgical skills and Sciences (MSc), Aesthetic Medicine (PGCert) and completed his thesis for the Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) in Reconstructive Microsurgery, at the Microsurgery Simulation Anastomosis Hub (MASH Lab) for which he received the Robert Zhong Award (2016) by the International Society for Experimental Microsurgery (ISEM). Dr Pafitanis completed 5 microsurgical fellowships: the Hanyang University Hospital, Korea (Prof Jeong Tae Kim), the Supermicrosurgery and Lymphatic Microsurgery in Tokyo University Hospital, Japan (Prof Isao Koshima), the Advanced Fellowship in Reconstructive Microsurgery in China Medical University Hospital, Taiwan (Prof Hung-Chi Chen), and the Guys’ and St’ Thomas Senior Microsurgery Fellowship, London. He published 128 peer-reviewed (Pubmed:85) articles in international journals (h-index=17, I10-index=33), and delivered more than 100 international presentations. He contributed as author in writing 12 chapters in books and was the senior editor of the book Core Flaps in Reconstructive Microsurgery by Springer Press Nature (Europe). Dr Pafitanis was awarded the European Society of Plastic Surgery Fellowship (ESPRAS Fellow 2019) and the EURAPS Young Plastic Surgeons Scholarship 2020.
